A list of 13 free activities in Surrey during the month of August

Free is good, and we found a list of no-cost things to do around town during the month of August on the city's website.

Thirteen such events made the list.

"Check out the free events and programs in your community and soak up the rest of summer without spending a dime!" reads the post.

Here's the list:

1. Dancing in the Plaza at Surrey City Hall Plaza from Aug. 2 to 30, 4:30 to 7 p.m. "Kick up your heels at Ceilidh Tuesdays at City Hall Plaza this month for lively jigs and Celtic folk dancing. This dance series is open to all skill levels." View details

2. Family Movie Nights: "This summer, enjoy free movies on Friday's in Cloverdale! Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. Family activities and entertainment begin at 8:00pm. Movies begin at dusk and are offered at two locations: August 5, 2016 (Minions), August 19, 2016 (Finding Nemo) at Don Christian Park. Also, August 12, 2016 (Lion King) and August 26 (Monsters Inc.) at Katzie Elementary School.

3. Pop-Up Junk Drop at Surrey Operations Centre Parking Lot on August 6 and 27 at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Get rid of household items you can’t put out during your regular waste collection service with junk drop off events in Surrey. Please note this is for City of Surrey residents only! Learn which items can or can’t be thrown away. View details

4. Movie Under the Stars: Fraser Heights Recreation Centre on August 12 starting at 8 p.m. "Bring your friends and family to an outdoor movie! The big screen will play Zootopia starting at dusk, but arrive early with your own chairs to secure your spot." View details

5. Amazing Farm Scavenger Hunt at Historic Stewart Farm on August 13 from noon to 3 p.m. "Would you have made it as a pioneer? Find out as you team up with friends, coworkers or family in this race around the Farm.  Come early to book your place in the hunt!" View details

6. Fibre Arts and Craft Festival at Surrey Museum on August 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. "Get your hands on all things fibre with this family-friendly, fun and interactive event. It’s a great and free way to get the kids involved in an artistic activity before they go back to school!" View details

7. Family Dance at Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre on August 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. "It’s easy to find a dance partner when it’s a member of your family! Get everyone into the groove with music and fun before the kids go back to school. It’s active and free!" View details

8. Sounds of Summer concerts at various locations in Surrey, on various dates until Aug. 31 (from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on select nights). "Join a free summer concert series in various garden parks across Surrey! Summer sunsets, live music and stunning garden settings. Bring your own blanket or folding chairs to enjoy the performances with your family and friends! All ages welcome." View details

9. Seniors in the Park events at various locations, on various dates in August (events are from 1 to 3 p.m.). "Seniors can get active outdoors and drop-in for free games of bocce, cards, horseshoes, lawn darts and more! Sessions are rain or shine." View details

10. Free Swims 2016 Sponsored by Westminster Savings, on Saturdays (once per month) all year long (various times and locations). "Join us for our free family swims held once per month at each of our indoor pools. Free swims are part of Westminster Savings' Project Better Balance." View details

11. Newton Days 2016: Nooner Wednesdays Hosted by the Newton BIA, at 7238 137 St., from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. "Let's kick off summer in Newton! Join us every Wednesday to listen to some live music and enjoy the outdoors." View details

12. Park Play events at various locations, various dates until August 26 (various times, too). "Park Play Staff will be in your neighbourhood park with free art, inclusive games, and activities! Note: Don’t miss out on the Park Play Wrap-Up Picnic on August 26, 2016 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Holly Park." View details

13. Outdoor Pools: various locations, open now until Sept. 5. "All of the City's outdoor pools are opened for free swimming. Take a dip and cool off. New this year: Bear Creek Outdoor Pool will offer free aquacise classes." View details
