Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC
Geoff Sale
Manager, Internationally Trained Professionals Program,

Established in 1958 by technicians and technologists in the fields of engineering and architecture, and Incorporated under the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Act (ASTT Act) in 1985,  ASTTBC has expanded to sixteen disciplines and nine special certifications in the broad field of applied science.  In a nutshell, ASTTBC exists to provide professional recognition and regulation to individuals in the engineering sector demographic which exists between Trades and Professional Engineering.

ASTTBC has a province-wide membership exceeding 10,000, and its purpose is to maintain, improve and increase the knowledge, ability and competence of technologists and technicians; to regulate the standards of training and practice of, and for, its members, and to protect the interests of the public.

ASTTBC is a resident of Surrey, with its office located at 10767 148th Street.  Over the past fifteen or so years, the proportion of immigrant applicants has risen from perhaps 10% to now more than 40% annually.   The association is strongly motivated to be seen as helping immigrant professionals who have difficulty finding appropriate employment, rather than being seen as a barrier to that employment.  One of the many directions ASTTBC has taken to address this issue was an extensive review and revision of its application and registrations processes, and membership in Surrey’ LIP initiative will help us ensure that our application procedures remain current, appropriate and thoroughly ITP-friendly.
